Benromach have decided to produce a “traditional speyside” whisky, a mixture of both smoky and sweet. Back in the day, before stream, all whisky had smoky elements due to peat being burned to dry the barley. While most speyside whiskies have gone for light, fruity flavours, Benromach has maintained its smoky qualities.
