Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay, dating back to 1779. It is situated in the town of Bowmore and all excess heat from the distillery is used to heat the local swimming pool. The No 1 warehouse at Bowmore is below sea level and they believe this is the perfect climate to mature their whisky. Often found in sherry casks, this whisky is often a lovely balance of smoke and dark rich spice.
