Brora Distillery

Highland Single Grain Scotch Whisky

Region

Highlands

Owner

Diageo

Founded

1819 | The Duke of Sutherland

Brora distillery was established as Clynelish in the early 19th century, but when a large, new distillery was built beside it during 1967 by owners Distillers Company Limited, that was given the Clynelish name, with the old site being re-christened Brora. After it was closed in 1983, there seemed little chance that Brroa would ever reopen, despite the full-bodied, earthy, waxy whisky it had produced achieving something of a cult status among aficionados. However, work began in 2019 to restore it to full working order, with the original pair of stills being refurbished, and the first casks of spirit were filled in May 2021.
