The Cairn Distillery

Renowned Elgin-based independent bottlers, retailers and distillers Gordon & MacPhail created this distillery near Grantown-on-Spey, in the Cairngorms National Park, between 2020 and 2022. It is located beside the River Spey and architecturally it presents a contrast to the firm’s highly traditional 19th century Benromach distillery near Forres, being circular in design and crowned with a sedum green roof. It produces a relatively full-bodied spirit suited to lengthy sherry cask-maturation, and the first release is not expected until the whisky is 12 years old.
