Falkirk Distillery was established close to the M9 motorway by local businessman George Stewart and his family and was designed in imposing traditional Scottish distillery style. In order to create a connection with whisky-making heritage, a copper-topped ‘rake and plough’ mash tun formerly used in the now demolished Caperdonich distillery on Speyside was installed, along with a pair of veteran Caperdonich stills. The spirit being made is classic Lowland in style – clean and light, and most is being filled into first-fill bourbon casks, along with some first-fill oloroso sherry casks.
