Toulvaddie distillery enjoys an unusual location, namely a former RAF aerodrome at Fearn, north of Inverness, and not far from Glenmorangie distillery. Toulvaddie was developed by locally-born Heather Nelson and husband Bobby, whose commercial experience was gained in television production. The distillery stands among a scattered array of buildings given over to small-scale industrial use, with many dating from when the airfield was operational during the Second World War. Toulvaddie is small in capacity, with a pair of stills supplied by Portuguese fabricators Hoga, and there are plans to grow malting barley close to the distillery and undertake runs of peated spirit production from time to time.
